Eyelid Lift

Candidates

Depending on your unique needs, Dr. Quintero can treat upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Eyelid surgery may also improve vision if excess upper eyelid skin is interfering with eyesight. In general, most candidates are 35 years of age or older.

Dr. Quintero aims to provide patients with natural results that fit their goals; enhancing the already beautiful you.

Procedure Steps

An eyelid lift can be performed as an in-office procedure or as an out-patient surgery in the hospital.

During eyelid surgery, excess fat, skin, and muscle are removed from the upper and/or lower eyelids. This helps improve drooping upper eyelids and puffy under eye bags. Incisions for an upper eyelid surgery are made within the natural crease of the lid and just below the lashes of the lower eyelids. Another approach is via a small incision inside the lower lid. This method allows the excess fat tissue to be removed, but no skin is excised. Surgery time for eyelid lifts typically lasts between 1 ½ to 2 hours, either under local anesthesia and sedation or general anesthesia.

Safety Preparations & Risk

In order to perform an eyelid lift procedure, a patient must be up to date on their eye exam. We also ask that patients stop certain medications and all nicotine products. Dr. Quintero would like for patients to follow these recommendations for a better healing and recovery process.

The risks of eyelid surgery include:

  • Dry, itchy, or burning sensation of the eyes
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Tearing
  • Slightly blurred vision.

Recovery

After surgery, cool eye pads are applied to the eyelids. Patients can expect some minor bruising and swelling with most of the bruising fading within 7 to 10 days. Minor discomfort, if any, can also occur and is easily controlled with prescription oral medication. Stitch removal is generally three to seven days following surgery. It will take about 7 to 10 days to return to work and resume normal activities and around 3 weeks before restarting strenuous activities.
