Candidates
Patients seeking liposuction should have realistic goals and expectations before moving forward with treatment. Liposuction is not a replacement for diet and exercise, but rather is used to remove stubborn pockets of fat.
The best candidates are normal weight patients with firm, elastic skin. Sometimes a combination of liposuction and skin excision is required for certain patient outcomes.
You may elect to undergo liposuction in conjunction with other treatments for even more comprehensive contouring. It is commonly paired with a tummy tuck, arm and leg lift, buttock lift, and more.
The resulting contour changes are generally permanent as long as your weight remains stable. Thus, you may want to postpone liposuction if you anticipate significant weight loss or gain.
Dr. Quintero aims to provide patients with natural results that fit their goals; enhancing the already beautiful you.
Procedure Steps
The procedure is performed as an outpatient treatment, you will return home after surgery.
The procedure involves inserting a narrow tube through a tiny incision to vacuum the fat layer that lies deep beneath the skin. Dr. Quintero uses a variety of techniques to provide patients with the best treatment for their target area. The duration of the procedure depends on the extent of fat removal.
Safety Preparation & Risk
In order to perform a safe liposuction, a patient must be up to date on their physical exam. We also ask that patients stop certain medications and all nicotine products. Dr. Quintero would like for patients to follow these recommendations for a better healing and recovery process.
There are some potential risks with liposuction:
- Contour irregularities
- Fluid accumulation
- Numbness
- Infection
- Fat embolism
- Lidocaine toxicity
- Pain
The risk of complications increases if Dr. Quintero is working on larger surfaces of your body or doing multiple procedures during the same operation.
Recovery
Depending on your liposuction treatment area you may need to rest for a week or more. You may also experience slight bruising, swelling, tenderness, and temporary numbness at the treatment site that will dissipate over your recovery period. We recommend patients to continue a healthy diet, drink plenty of water and once cleared by Dr. Quintero return to regular exercise which will also promote healing and improve your results.
